| 21/29 | Religious systems. Religions and faiths Scope Note: There are numerous criteria for deciding what constitutes a religion; in this arrangement it is taken that, at the very broadest level, a religion is a system which contains some recognition of a spiritual or supernatural dimension in its view of the world. The fundamental arrangement is historical, but within that religions are organized in familial groups i.e. Hinduism, Jainism and Sikhism, etc. Application Note: In order to accommodate the enormous number of specialised terms in religious literature, a large number of examples of combination are given in special auxiliary tables for a range of religions and faiths. It is intended that the indexer uses these as a pattern for the development of the classes for all other religions as required using special auxiliary subdivision 2-1/-9 |
